Skills Training FAQ

  • Can you provide sessions in my home?

We offer in-home skills training at an additional fee (ranging from $35-50). The travel fee depends on how far your home is from the clinician providing services.

  • Do I have to purchase supplies?

We may recommend certain supplies based on your needs. This may vary from calendars/planners, whiteboards, pill boxes, cooking utensils/appliances, etc. You can either purchase these on your own, or we can gather the supplies for you and you can purchase them through us. We try to accommodate your needs, especially if you are not doing your own shopping or have trouble using online shopping methods. If you do not have certain cooking appliances, you can do the cooking session at our office.

  • Does insurance cover skills training?

    Yes and no.

Yes, some insurance plans may cover skills training as part of cognitive rehabilitation delivered by a licensed speech-language pathologist. Your insurance company may require a medical script, specific diagnosis, prior authorization, and dictate how many sessions you are allowed. Home visits are usually not covered. Every insurance plan is different. If you plan on using insurance, please go through our speech therapy provider.

Since insurance companies may limit access to care, we created an additional line of services designed to meet your needs. Although these services are not covered by insurance, we are able to work with a wider range of clients and even offer in home services.

  • How much does skills training cost?

Our cognitive specialist is not covered by insurance. The rate is usually $100 per hour, although this may vary based on the service and how many hours you need. We also have a travel fee if you prefer in home services. Please ask about discounts for packages.

Our speech-language pathologist offers both insurance a self-pay options. The out-of-pocket rate is $150 per hour.

  • What should I expect?

The initial session will review your history and reason for services. The provider will collaboratively discuss the plan for skills training.

Each training session will include hands on activities. There may be assignments to work on between sessions.
